The Fatal Impact by Alan Moorehead is a terrific book. It's all about the first contact and its effects on Tahitian, Australian and Antarctic societies 1767-1840. One of the fascinating things about this book is that most of what we know about those times comes from ships logs and seaman's diaries. In effect the first bloggers. Fascinating get it and read it.
