Freezing Rain: A nasty weather phenomena that occurs when warm air aloft is hovering over cold air trapped in valleys. Precipation in the form of rain falls to the ground and freezes instantly coating everything in a thick heavy layer of ice.

Quebec is the freezing rain capital of the world. We had a storm in 1998 that laid so much freezing rain down on to Hydro towers that these giant structures collapsed.


We had some Freezing rain over New Years. It did not stop me from Hot tubbing in 2003 on a mtn top chalet with champagne.(thanks M & L) But when I stumbled at 2 am and crashed to the frozen ground with red eyes and a giant bottle of Wisers in my hand I cursed the weather.

Skiing was out of the question but skating was epic. I brought my "A" game to the Outdoor hockey rink and punished the local Quebecois.
