When you find that someone who is just so attractive, so hot in fact that you assume they are way out of your league….. and they like you back? BAM! That’s the gold standard in raising self esteem.
It happened to me once in Honolulu.
She wore a green bikini and ohh she was cute. I figured there was no chance for me because… well you know, all those catamaran guys and all, they got all the girls to them it was an endless parade.
I’d seen that much during the summer on the beach. I was lucky to have a job, and was stoked just to be working the beach on Waikiki.
After meeting her I hoped, but really knew nothing would come, that’s why when I learned from the boys that some hot California girl had swung by the shack on my day off my heart leaped.
Never was I so disappointed for missing a day of work as at that moment. Soon though my luck would change, and with it my whole world.
Later that summer we arranged to meet at Seagull’s. That was the bar she liked to go to with her friends from school. Oh man was I excited. I had my best shorts on and everything. I was nervous but just to have the chance to see her was thrilling.
She was beautiful. It was a fun night her friends were great and plenty tequila later the party broke up. I lost track of her and was sitting on the low wall outside the bar thinking maybe I should make the short walk home to the Monte Vista, wishing I had more courage to make a move.
Next thing I know there she was, all tan, sun bleached hair glowing in the moonlight. I’m not sure how but suddenly we were on a mission to find a way to get her back to UH. I had a car but it seemed cooler in my drunken state to borrow a motorcycle. Amazingly common sense prevailed and we decided on the car instead.
I was in heaven at this point and even the flat tire I am pretty sure I had to fix on the short drive up the Ala wai only made the night more memorable.
The kiss goodnight was the best part, it was a life changing moment. I will never forget that night.
The next morning as I steered the Jet Ski Hawaii barge out through the surf at Waikiki I watched the sunrise and thought about the night before, smiled knowing It was probably the best night of my life.
